This Means War

Through a simulation game, students experience how ‘us vs. them’ thinking develops and escalates. As representatives of fictional countries navigating alliances and conflicts, they encounter betrayal, frustration, and the pressure to pick sides. Through guided reflection, participants connect these dynamics to how online radicalization exploits feelings of resentment and the desire to belong.

THIS MIGHT BE FOR YOU IF...

You’re working with young men who spend significant time in gaming culture — and you’ve noticed how some of the messages in that space are shaping how they relate to others, to competition, and to conflict. You want a session that engages rather than dismisses gaming culture while building critical thinking. This session is for programs working at the intersection of gaming, masculinity, and online behaviour.

WHAT WE'LL COVER

● Online radicalization & extremism
● Othering & belonging

WHERE IT WORKS

This Means War was built for school settings and youth programs where gaming culture is a significant part of young men’s lives. It works best in environments where facilitators are comfortable meeting students in their own cultural context rather than talking over it.
