The Man Box

Students explore how gender norms, stereotypes, and expectations shape modern definitions of masculinity. Students examine the sources of societal messages about gender roles and discover how these ideas evolve over time. Through guided discussion and reflection, they develop critical thinking skills to question limiting stereotypes and envision more authentic expressions of identity that align with their personal values and goals.

THIS MIGHT BE FOR YOU IF...

You're working with young men who have a lot of unspoken rules about how they're supposed to act — and those rules are limiting them. Maybe you've seen how those expectations play out in your classroom or program: the pressure to be tough, to avoid showing emotion, to perform a version of masculinity that doesn't quite fit. This session is for schools and organizations looking to bring NGM in to help young men name, examine, and push back on those expectations together.

WHAT WE'LL COVER

● Gender stereotypes related to masculinity
● Fitting in & peer pressure

WHERE IT WORKS

The Man Box was designed for school settings and works equally well in nonprofit youth programs. It’s structured for groups of young men and works best in environments where participants know each other, have some existing trust, and have space for honest conversation.
